The 2015 Gentlemen's Cup

Chicago, Illinois
July 9 - 12

Lords (6) def. Nobles (3)

With heavy lobbying from Matt Corbin, the 2015 G-Cup traveled to Chicago after a temporary hiatus in 2014*. With world-class courses and downtown Chicago nightlife, the event was a huge success even if the hotel was "a Motel 6 with an elevator." (It should be noted that Connor was responsible for the hotel, not Matt.)

Glorious golf, cheap beer, and corn-fed beef made for one of the best cups of all time. Notching their third straight win, the Lords were the only team to score points on the first two days, digging a grave that the Nobles just couldn't climb out of.

* Due to cross-country relocation in 2014 the G-Cup was regrettably skipped due to all of the planning responsibility falling on one individual. Learning from this experience the Gentlemen's Cup Planning Committee was formed ensuring many successful G-Cups to come.

July 9, 2015 - "Dice Game"
Mistwood Golf Course
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 1: Lords 1 - Nobles 0

The beautiful afternoon was the highlight of day one of the 2015 G-Cup at Mistwood Golf Course. With perfect temperature on a long summer afternoon, it was the ideal location for a late round. Combined with a grass range 10 feet from the bar and it's easy to see why the opening course in Chicago was a hit.

Mistwood also saw the first ever "Dice Game" used in a 3 on 3 format. With limited re-rolls the nerve-racking games of alternate shot and worst-ball scramble came into play. Never heard of worst-ball scramble? Consider yourself lucky - Connor, Justin and John carded a 10 on a par 3.

July 19, 2015 - Scramble
Cog Hill Golf and Country Club - #4 Dubsdread
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 2: Lords 4 - Nobles 0

Cog Hill is renown for it's practice facility, including it's short game area. For this reason, most of the G-Cuppers showed up over an hour before their tee time to fine tune their game.

Never one to follow, Matt Lambert decided to forgo his pre-round warmup in exchange for attire that would keep him warm all round long. On a 90+ degree Chicago summer day, Matt donned a sweater, corduroys, and black dress socks as he strolled to the tee two minutes before his scheduled tee time with his rented set of clubs. (Spoiler - his team did not win that match!)

The Lords added to their point from the first day, carding three additional points. The Nobles played strong but stumbled when it came to the famed Dubsdead sand traps. Some bunkers more than 20 feet deep, they had an incredible ability to swing the outcome of a hole.

July 11, 2015 - Singles
Harborside International - Starbord Course
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 3: Lords 6 - Nobles 3

The Lords cemented their early lead and official dynasty status on Day 3 of the 2015 G-Cup at Harborside International.

Unwilling to go 0-3, Nobles captain Chip Cavanaugh took out his frustration on Reed Cheatham, making his personal record versus Reed 3-0. The ultimate embarrassment, Reed has subsequently never competed in another G-Cup.

Matt Lambert defeated John Dana in a revenge match and Justin Gerstner kept his "off color" commentary to a minimum (something everyone was thankful for) while taking down Jay Beckner.

While hangovers may have slowed the golf it didn't slow the competition with the Nobles scoring 3 points - one more than the Lords 2.
