The 2017 Gentlemen's Cup
MELEE IN THE MOUNTAINS
Park City, Utah
September 21 - 24
Nobles (6.5) def. Lords (5.5)
2017 was the first ever win for the Nobles. The teams split the first two days, entering the final singles matches 3 - 3. The Nobles won three matches straight up and managed to halve a fourth match on the 18th thanks to strong play by Matt Corbin to win the hole. Not only did this win stop the bleeding, it knocked the Lords down a peg and reminded everyone that a single swing of the club can change the outcome of a G-Cup.

Chris Derr set the tone for the Nobles, driving a 400 yard par four on the first day and winning all three of his matches. Matt Lambert ("Hambo Lambo") also managed to go 3 - 0 over the weekend dropping some unbelievable shots on par 3s - his signature move. Combined with a strong showing from Justin Ferira, it was just enough to post a win over the undefeated Lords.

The 6th G-Cup also saw the introduction of a custom trophy. Evan Solomon commissioned a master woodworker to create an artifact that demonstrates the sophistication, camaraderie, and general debauchery of the Cup. It's fair to say he nailed it.

Soldier Hollow Golf Club - Gold Course
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 1: Nobles 2 - Lords 1
Soldier Hollow golf course was the gem of the 2017 G-Cup but due to weather it was played on the first day instead of the last. With a later tee time to accommodate players still traveling some rounds finished just as the sun was setting and the temperatures were dropping.

Evan Solomon kicked off the cup with rules and regulations but it was Chris Derr who really set the stage by attempting to drive the very first hole (372 yards) and coming up just short. Not afraid to hit the long ball, Derr forced everyone to rethink their strategy.
Sep 22, 2017 - Scramble Format
Thanksgiving Point Golf Club
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 2: Nobles 3 - Lords 3
Thanksgiving Point provided a gorgeous backdrop to the second day of the 2017 G-Cup. The cool mountain air meant balls were flying long, but Johnny Miller's first course was biting back in a big way. Frequent water, traps, and out of bounds kept everyone on their toes and even had a few folks cursing Johnny's architectural choices.

Paul Fung and Andrew Moyer (now in separate pairings) again stored a point for the Lords, evening the score to 3 - 3 and setting up a final showdown on Singles Saturday. Hambo Lambo left the vodka at home and was firing at pins all day, leaving Connor & Sean feeling like even four full strokes wasn't enough.
Sep 23, 2017 - Singles
Bountiful Ridge Golf Course
(1 point per match)
Score at the end of Day 3: Nobles 6.5 - Lords 5.5
The third day of the 2017 G-Cup proved to be the most exciting as matches bounced back and forth between teams like a ping pong ball. Maybe it was the tight fairways, maybe it was the underground driving range, or maybe it was the stress of singles - either way it made for a very exciting day.

Evan Solomon was 3 up over Chris Derr and feeling like he was going to cruise to an easy victory, only to watch Chris find another gear and rattle off wins on 5 out of 6 holes.

Paul Fung trailed Alex Levy until Alex took his golf cart on a little adventure, managing to render it "less than factory fresh." Paul used this opportunity to steal the lead back from Alex, finishing one up.

Connor Fee, struggling with his driver, managed to get two up on Matt Corbin with two to play thanks to above average putting. Matt had other plans however, winning the final two holes to secure the half point that guaranteed the Nobles victory.
